“Celebrating our Traditions and Values”
An expression is an illustration, representation, or articulation of an idea.

This year we are asking our participating young artists to create a piece of art that illustrates, represents, or articulates a tradition that is practiced in their homes, schools, places of worship, or communities.

As your students think about what tradition they want to select for their subject, they should remember that traditions often mirror what a group of people value most. That’s one of the main reasons they are carried out by generation after generation.

We invite classes to conceive and create for their ArtLink partners a collection of art that includes a variety of family, religious, ethnic, or national traditions. The traditions can be reflected in holiday celebrations, clothing, foods, sports, entertainment, etc. They could be practiced just once in a life-time, or each day, or on a regular basis anywhere in between.

Your students should be reminded that their partner class will not only just enjoy looking at your art pieces, but they will be delving below the surface of the pieces to discover what your students value most in their lives.

“Celebrando Nuestras Tradiciones y Valores”

Una expresión es una ilustración, representación, o articulación de una idea. Para el 2009- 2010, le estamos preguntando a nuestros jóvenes participantes artistas que produzcan una pieza de arte que ilustre, represente o articule alguna tradición que sea practicada en sus hogares, escuelas, sitios de oración o comunidades.

Mientras sus estudiantes se preguntan acerca de que tipo de tradición desean seleccionar como sujeto de su pieza de arte, es importante que se entienda que una tradición es generalmente un reflejo de lo que un grupo de personas valoran en conjunto. Esta es una de las razones mas importantes por la cual dichas tradiciones son trasladadas de generación en generación.

Invitamos a las clases que desarrollen y diseñen para la participación en este programa de ArtLink de un conjunto de piezas de arte que incluya una variedad variedad de tradiciones familiares, religiosas, étnicas o nacionales que sean reflejadas en sus celebraciones, vestimenta, comidas, deportes, actividades de esparcimiento, etc. Dichas actividades podrían ser practicadas solo una vez en la vida o cada día de forma periódica en sus vidas.
